***Important Note*** Some of these questions are difficult. Please do the best you can. They are designed to stretch us and be discussed with others, even outside of Wednesday night.

Kneading (Mon–Wed): Three daily questions (about 15 minutes) that “work the dough” of the sermon and shape us. Write your answers down to prepare for the discussion on Wednesday.

Monday

Read Genesis 1:26-28 and Job 38:4-7

  1. Does knowing that God is talking to His divine council help you understand Genesis 1 better? Why or why not?
  2. Find another place in the Bible where God is talking to His divine council and summarize what is going on.
  3. Can you think of some modern examples of how we bear the image of different things and what that means? For example, when we wear a uniform, we represent that company and are expected to act a certain way.

Tuesday

Read Genesis 1:26-28

  1. When have you dehumanized either yourself or someone else? What prompted that?
  2. Do you see the words “Be fruitful and multiply” as a privilege, a burden, or even a curse in our modern world? Why?
  3. What would you say if someone were to ask you how a Christian is to be a good steward of the environment, given that the words “subdue” and “dominion” are in verse 28?

Wednesday

Read Genesis 1:26-28

  1. Do you think it was surprising for an ancient reader of this text that God created both male and female in his image? Given this truth, how does it impact our treatment of the opposite gender?
  2. How will we think of human dignity in a future with Artificial Intelligence? Will there be robot dignity?
  3. If someone doesn’t believe we are made in the Image of God, where would they get their dignity from?  How might that impact how they view themselves and other people?

Wednesday Night Bread and Butter Meet Up! 6:00 pm at Zion! Tables start at 6:30!

Baking (Thurs–Sat): Three daily questions/activities that help you “rise” into next week’s sermon passage. Write your questions down to prepare for the upcoming sermon.

Thursday

Read Genesis 1:29-2:25

  1. What are some questions that come to your mind when you read this passage? Write down at least 3.
  2. Why do you think it is important to rest as God rested?
  3. How would you summarize this section of scripture in a couple of sentences?

Friday

Read Genesis 1:29-2:25

  1. Write down a prayer to God that asks Him for help in understanding a certain question you have about this passage of scripture.
  2. What is God doing in this text, and how does that make you feel? Be specific.
  3. In what ways does modern culture disagree with this text? How does it challenge or affirm you?

Saturday

Read Genesis 1:29-2:25

  1. Send someone a text, call someone on the phone, or have a conversation in person about what you found interesting about Genesis 1:29-2:25.
  2. Say a prayer to God for people in your life who need to hear this section of scripture.
  3. In what ways does this text connect to other texts in the Bible? Find a connecting verse in another book.

Bread & Butter is our weekly gathering where we explore God’s Word together in true Christian community. Rooted in Acts 2:42, we believe all Scripture is “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness”—and that these things happen most powerfully in fellowship, not in isolation.

This isn’t simply a Bible study where we collect information.
Bread & Butter is a place where we grow through meaningful questions, honest reflection, and shared life.
• Questions that make us search our hearts
• Applications that strengthen real relationships
• Fellowship that nourishes the soul
• Scripture that shapes us week after week

⸻

How Bread & Butter Works

Each Sunday, we provide weekly reflection questions—three per day—that take about 15 minutes to complete. These create a daily rhythm of engagement with God’s Word.

Kneading (Monday–Wednesday)

The first three days of questions help “work the dough.”
They help us dive deeper into Sunday's sermon: stretching us, challenging us, and pressing the passage deeper into our lives.
These are also the questions our groups will discuss together on Wednesday nights.

Baking (Thursday–Saturday)

The final three days of questions help you “rise” into the next week by preparing your heart for the coming Sunday’s sermon passage.

This rhythm allows Scripture to feed you throughout the entire week.

Weekly Gatherings

Wednesdays | 6:00–8:00 PM | Zion UCC Baroda
• 6:00–6:30 PM — Fellowship time
• The church provides freshly popped popcorn
• You are welcome to bring a dessert or appetizer to share
• 6:30–8:00 PM — Small-group discussion
• Groups of 6–8 people
• Groups are divided into men’s groups, women’s groups, and youth groups
• The whole church, friends, and family are invited to participate

⸻

Monthly Fellowship Meal

Once a month, Bread & Butter pauses its structured discussion and meets in someone’s home for a shared meal. The goal is simple: deeper friendship, genuine hospitality, and the kind of fellowship we see in Acts 2.
• The host provides the main course
• Others bring a side dish or dessert
• The host determines the time

These meals are optional, but they are a wonderful way to build community.

⸻

Who Is Bread & Butter For?

Whether you’re new to Scripture or have walked with Christ for years, Bread & Butter is designed to help you:

• Strengthen your faith
• Grow in holiness through the Spirit and the Word
• Experience discipleship in real time
• Belong to a community that is growing together

This is where we gather around God’s Word…
and let Him nourish, shape, and transform us.

⸻

Start Date
