Zion Develops Survey for Communication Preferences
For many years, Zion has distributed most of its printed communication through the United States Postal Service. We have routinely mailed these items by “third-class” mail. It represents a careful use of your Stewardship resources, as we use a “bulk-rate” permit. Third class mail is generally less than 1/3 the cost of first class mail.
The down-sides are: 1) we always have to send a minimum of 200 pieces, and 2) much of this material is dreadfully late in arriving. We’ve had regular reports that delivery has taken as long as 2+ weeks in some instances.
With the arrival of e-mail, and more recently a more robust web-site, our delivery options have increased.
To help us discover what is best for the members of our church, we are asking each member to take a very brief survey. The survey will take less than 2 minutes to take.
There are 5 options.
1) Receive most printed communications through direct e-mail.
2) Receive “unedited” communications through a pass-word protected web-page.
3) Receive “edited” communications through a non-pass-word protected web-page.
4) Receive most communications in printed format through your mail-box at church.
5) Receive most communications through printed format mailed to your home.
There are two compelling reasons for exploring electronic options. First is speed. Communications can be forwarded electronically within minutes. Second is cost. If enough folk are willing to choose an electronic version, then we could anticipate substantial cost savings, not only in postage, but also in production costs.
Regardless of the out-come of the survey, we will gladly continue printed versions either placed in mail-boxes at church, or mailed to their homes, for those who do not have access to a computer or the internet.
